Location & Geography
France is bordered by several countries including Spain, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. It is much less urbanised than the UK and the countryside is often beautiful or even spectacular.

The Weather
In the French Alps the winter brings snow and the summer is usually hot and dry. Summer 2003 saw one of the hottest summers on record. Spring and Autumn are usually good times to visit France with typically higher temperatures at these times than in the UK

Driving
In France people drive on the right. Most road signs are similar, but you should familiarise yourself with the signs you don't know. The motoways in France are often much quicker than the 'national' roads. However, you have to pay to use the motorways.

Documentation
You will need a passport to come to France, and you should carry it with you. UK passport holders do not need a visa to visit France
